Good news! You don't need a library card to use the library at WNC.
For WNC faculty and staff:
Borrowing Materials
The amount of time materials may be checked out depends on what it is but, in general, faculty and staff may borrow materials for the full semester.
If you need to renew an item or check it out for a longer period of time, please contact the library.
Users must sign in to the catalog itself before they will be able to access any of the databases or articles. You do not have log ins for the various databases but may access them individually after signing into the catalog.
Research (or subject) guides are lists of resources created by librarians to highlight particular information and sources that may be useful when researching a topic.
You can embed any of the guides into your Canvas shell, if you would like to share them directly with your students. We encourage all faculty and staff to make recommendations for inclusions in the guides pertaining to their field(s) of interest.
Please reach out if you would like to have a librarian demonstrate research methods, database use, citation styles, and/or information literacy. One-off and multiple sessions are available, depending on your needs.
The library offers individual and small group research sessions where students can sit down with a librarian and work through the research process together. This can be done in person or via Zoom.
The library has several assignments designed to help students locate information using library resources. Feel free to use or adapt these, as needed. Instructional sessions are also available using these assignments as a basis.
These infographics cover various research topics. You are more than welcome to embed any or all of them in your Canvas shell(s) and/or distribute them to your students.
The library does not usually have required textbooks unless the instructor of the class has placed a copy on reserve.
If you would like a copy of any of your course materials placed in the reserves, please contact the library to arrange their inclusion.
If you have a planned absence (conferences, weddings, etc.), rather than cancelling your class, you may request an instructional support session. Sessions are led by library staff and academic coaches.
Topics to choose from include: library research skills, information literacy and resource evaluation, resume building and interview techniques, study skills, citations and formatting, or we can customize a session for your needs.
Please give us at least 2 days of notice (not including weekends).
The library curates an ongoing list of OER materials for a variety of courses. If you would like assistance locating OERs for your course, please contact us.
The library houses archived sabbatical reports as part of the WNC institutional archives.
